DESCRIPTION:World AIDS Museum presented: Staged reading of Harvey Fierstein's\, Safe Sex\n\n\n\nSafe Sex is a trio of one-act plays by Harvey Fierstein. It premiered on Broadway in 1987. A staged reading of the play will be performed at the World AIDS Museum on March 24th at 8:00pm.  \n\n\n\n''I was trying to come to terms with the situation\, with AIDS\, that's why I wrote it\," said Harvey Fierstein in this April 5\, 1987 interview with Glenn Collins of the New York Times. ''But I didn't want to write a play about how a guy gets sick before your eyes and what happens to the people around him\," Mr. Fierstein said. "This is not a play about disease\, it's a play about life."\n\n\n\nWhile assistant curator for special collections at the Chicago Public Library\, Susan Thach Dean wrote\, "These three one-act plays are unconnected except in their exploration of the psychological ravages of the disease. Although none of the characters is actually ill\, all have suffered radical changes in their relationships and view of the world\; all find that the very concept of "safe sex" inhibits their ability to connect\, not just sexually but also emotionally\, with others."\n\n\n\nThis production is made possible by a grant from the Broward County Cultural Arts Commission.
