DESCRIPTION:This musical introduction transcends the borders of the mainland. It is part of a continuing music series from the recent production "Present in Place\, Space\, and Time\," which premiered at the Pompano Cultural Center in July 2025. Each concert will showcase instruments that have only been seen or heard on our favorite social media platforms but have yet to be experienced live. A diverse array of musicians will be featured\, bringing culture to life in each performance.\n\n\n\nMay 16\, 2026 - Gerald Zilas (Drums and Cultural Musician)\, Jen Martinez-Bre and JaNia Harden (Vocals).\n\n\n\nAbout the Artists\n\nGerald Zilas\n\nGerald Zilas is a passionate Haitian drummer and cultural musician known for his powerful rhythms and deep connection to traditional Haitian music. Drawing inspiration from the spiritual and ancestral sounds of Haiti\, Gerald blends traditional drumming with modern grooves to create an unforgettable musical experience.\n\n\n\nOver the years\, Gerald has performed in cultural events\, community gatherings\, and collaborations that highlight the beauty of Haitian heritage through percussion. His\n\ndrumming reflects the heart and soul of Haitian rhythms-energetic\, spiritual\, and deeply expressive.\n\n\n\nBeyond performance\, Gerald is committed to sharing the art of drumming with others\, teaching and inspiring the next generation to embrace Haitian culture through music.\n\n\n\nJen Martinez-Bre\n\nJen Martinez-Bre is a Peruvian/Cuban-American percussionist\, clinician\, and disability advocate based in South Florida. Known as "The Baroness of Latin Jazz\," she blends her Cuban and Peruvian roots with a wide range of musical influences\, earning recognition from national arts organizations and performing alongside acclaimed jazz artists.
